ANGELES CITY, Philippines

Located among the fertile farmland of the rich Central Luzon plain, Angeles City was established more than 200 years ago as an administrative and commercial center in Pampanga Province.

The Development of the U.S Clark Air Base adjoining the city provided a massive boost to Angeles growth. The city has survived the devastating Mt. Pinatubo eruption of 1991 to re-emerge as bustling Metropolis of more than 300,000 inhabitants and is an important destination for travelers.

The Americans left behind an established infrastructure of quality hotels, restaurants and entertainment spots which all represents remarkable value for money. Many former U.S military personnel have chosen Angeles as their retirement option and the city’s boost a large expatriate community. Tourist are attracted to the relaxed lifestyle, the vibrant nightlife and the city’s proximity to many of Luzon’s major attractions.

Angeles City, approximately 87 km. north of Manila, offers most entertainment and leisure activities, right at its doorstep.

  TREK UP MOUNT PINATUBO  

- There are various Travel agencies along Fields Avenue as well as some hotels receptions that will arrange tours of the volcanoes that surround Angeles City – The most famous is Mt. Pinatubo which erupted about several years ago causing devastation that can still be seen today by traveling around the small towns on the outskirts of Angeles. Some were covered by volcano ash and damaged by the flooding that occurred at that time. Camping tours to the volcano Crater Lake and nature walks are popular now or alternately the volcano can be observed by light aircraft – these joy flights are by operators within the Clark Air base.

 

GOLF

-The Philippines has many championship golf courses, of which many were designed by champion players.

Angeles City, with the Famous Mimosa Members Golf course and many others including Hidden Valle with its 9 hole course that also added advantage of a floodlit night driving range. And the other one in Mabalacat, the Marina Golf course just a 20 minutes ride from Angeles City. Just 35 km. north of Angeles at Luisita there is (considered by many) the finest golf course in the country. This is easily reached from Angeles City for games daily.

GAM BLING

- The Casino Filipino along Mac Arthur Hi-way, Balibago is another place that you might enjoy. There’s another casino in Clark, which can be found at Mimosa at Fontana Resort. You can get there by riding a taxi.

 

BIKE RIDING

- Hire your favorite machine from a variety of places along Fields Avenue Roaming around the close vicinity can be rewarding as the historic ruins from the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo some years ago, are still evident today. It is Law in the Philippines to wear a crash helmet while riding a bike on public roads.

 

UNDERWATER SCUBA DIVING

- Is done in many parts of the Philippines and is a major sport in Areas such as Subic Bay and La Union, Northern Luzon. Classes can be arranged at your hotel using the swimming pool for both theory and practical lessons in Angeles or on-site at the coastal resorts.

-The Philippines offers some of the best underwater diving sites in the world – Northern Luzon has Subic Bay, La Union and the Gulf of Lingayen. Subic Bay is the most popular spot for its offshore reefs and underwater ship wrecks which lack nothing for the experienced and novice diver alike.

HOT-AIR BALLOO N FESTIVAL  

It is held every February 9-11 at Clark Air Base, Angeles City, Philippines. Its an annual tournament of balloonist from various countries. It is held in February and has become a regular feature inside Clark Field, Pampanga since its inception in 1994, when the Department of Tourism thru its regional Office in Pampanga offered to revive the event three years following the eruption of Mt. Pinatubo.  

Big hot air balloons, sky diving exhibitions, ultra light aircraft flying demonstrations, military and civilian formation aircraft flying, aerobatic flights, hang gliding and even drag racing events combined with many other smaller events to make this International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta a successful and memorable event.

 In the sky and on the ground the action was nonstop over the entire 3 days. Local enthusiast as well as people from other Asian countries (including Japan, South Korea, and Malaysia) and some form as far away as Europe participated in what has now become an annual event here in Angeles City.

 The 3 day event was hosted by Omni Aviation and a variety of Philippine sponsors and held at Omni Aviation’s ground terminal facility and domestic runway inside the Clark International Airport Area.

 

CLARK AIR BASE (CLARK SPECIAL ECONOMIC ZONE)

Forms a part of the Angeles/ Balibago Tourist Area and has a history dating back to beyond World War 2 days. This Base has been used by such military might’s as Japan and United States of America in years gone by. The airstrip was designed and built big enough to land a space shuttle if needed, so in years to come the larger planes may also be able to use the airport as an alternative to Manila. Presently the airport is used by light aircraft doing mostly domestic runs and cargo planes, as the factories that have sprung up with the advent of tax concessions are able to use this Special Economic Zone to their advantage.
